Stargazing sessions are presented almost every night throughout the year. The stargazing session is one hour (max 1.5 hours) long where you will be able to watch through 1 of 6 telescopes. Remember to "dress up for the occasion". Evenings are cool so in order for you to enjoy the program more thoroughly, being warmly dressed is essential.

Please always confirm the starting times when booking for Star Gazing and note the show is one and a half hours long.

We have our own private amateur observatory with two telescopes (15cm and a 20cm refractor) where Nicol takes our guests at night for stargazing. He is the only stargazing guide on the farm, which means that in the unlikely event of him not being here or being sick, you will not be able to watch stars. (This usually does not happen!) Therefore we do not take bookings for stargazing and, unlike the other amateur observatory in Sutherland, Nicol does not charge any fees for stargazing. However, everything needs maintenance and a small donation is much appreciated if you have enjoyed the night’s viewing

Stargazing allows visitors to view interesting objects in the night sky, through two dedicated visitor telescopes. Note that visitors cannot visit any of the research telescopes at night. Astronomy is a light-sensitive science and no lights are allowed on the plateau in the evenings, making it impossible to see anything at all. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes but may be cancelled due to inclement weather conditions. Due to intermittent technical challenges experienced with our electronic telescopes, Dobsonian telescopes will be used for stargazing when required.
